Belief in God, Confidence in the Church and Secularization in Scandinavia
2021
We used the three latest rounds of the religion module of International Social Survey Programme to study secularization in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, focusing on belief in God. We restricted our sample to the affiliated with the majority Protestant churches and the unaffiliated and analyzed the trends toward disaffiliation and disbelief in God. Then, we studied the association between confidence in churches, religious/secular upbringing, and demographic controls with belief in God using multinomial logistic regression models. Our treatment of belief in God as a nominal variable allowed the inclusion of both the element of doubt and different images of God in the analyses. The trends towar…
Modernità, secolarizzazione e metafisica. In dialogo (postumo) con Sergio Sarti
2022
2022
The essay intends retrace the development of the relationship between secular reason and religious language in Habermas's thought. To this end, the essay focuses on the theory of translation, and on complementary learning. The first part will provide a comparison between the conception of modernity and the progressive promotion – on both a cognitive and normative level – of the religious sense. The second part advances an interpretation of the public sphere conceived as a secular space for the cooperation between reason and religion. Lastly, the article highlights the problematic excess of the religious sense by considering the rationalization of its semantic contents.
LA PREGHIERA POST-SECOLARIZZATA DEI MILLENNIALS
2019
The article discusses the theme of prayer understood as a process of individual research of a secular spirituality rather than as a ritual practice among members of the same faith. Trough the answers given by a sample of 1026 students of Palermo University, the prayer appears as the result of a individualization’s process and assumes post-secularized connotations. The answers given during the focus groups conducted, identify in the choice of Millennials to ‘pray’ an activity of reflection that goes beyond the autopoietic and self-referential dimension.Millennials’ pray is a self-reflexive prayer that often questions the great themes of this time – euthanasia, abortion, procreative choices, …
Stato, Chiesa e secolarizzazione: in dialogo con Antonio Rosmini
2021
The relation between state and Church is one of the main topics of Western political debate. In this essay I will stress that there is not a clear formula to face this topic. Therefore, it is necessary that Catholic philosophy and theology always reflect on the way this relation has to be thought as time goes by. More specifically, I will argue that the premise of liberal Catholicism, that is that a clear distinction between state and society exists, is today not more easily acceptable at all. This point is very important in order to reflect upon the relation between state and Church, political and religion, and public and private sfere in our age.
Teologia nadziei w posoborowych obrzędach pogrzebowych
2016
The faith in C hrisfs resurrection had a great impact on the funeral rites of the early Church. For his followers, the day o f death was not considered as the end o f everything but, indeed, it was regarded the day of birth for heaven. The spirit of hope for etemal life characterized the Funeral Rites o f the first Christian communities. Also the Second Vatican Council has ordered to arrange the Rites in such a way that they would express more clearly the Paschal character of death of the contemporary Christians. But in the last decades of the 20th century incredible changes o f the former funeral customs have been noted. It is clearly evident especially in the societies that - embraced by …
